National Night Out
On Tuesday, August 7th, neighborhoods throughout Huntersville are invited to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the “24th Annual National Night Out” (NNO) crime and drug prevention event. This is the second year the Town of Huntersville has participated in the program. National Night Out, sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) and co-sponsored locally by The Huntersville Police Department and Parks and Recreation Department, will join over 11,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world. In all, over 35 million people are expected to participate in “America’s Night Out Against Crime” on August 7th.
National Night Out is designed to: (1) Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; (2) Generate support for and participation in, local anticrime efforts; (3) Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and (4) Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
Northcross Shopping Center located at Sam Furr Road and Statesville Road has again agreed to host our National Night Out on August 7, 2007 between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. All members of the community are encouraged to participate, as festivities will include something for all ages. Events will include activities for children, displays of police, fire, and medical vehicles, including the Carolinas Medical Center, Med Center Air (helicopter). Other activities include music from 96.9 Kat Country and hotdogs provided by Harris Teeter (while supplies last).
Each community is also encouraged to host their own event. These events could be for entire neighborhoods or individual blocks. The Huntersville Police Department asks that these events start before 6:00 p.m. or after 8:00 p.m. during Northcross Shopping Center event. If your community or street plans on having its own National Night Out, please contact the Huntersville Police Department to ensure an officer comes to your community event. We also ask everyone to leave their porch light on to show their support for “Giving Crime & Drugs A Going Away Party.”
The Town of Huntersville Police and Parks and Recreation Departments would like to thank its corporate sponsors Target, Harris Teeter, Electricities and Pssghetti’s.
