The Criminal Investigation Division (CID) has primary responsibility for the investigation of more serious or complex offenses. The Criminal Investigation Division is commanded by a Lieutenant, who reports to the Field Operations Bureau Commander. The Division Lieutenant exercises direct supervision over the General Investigation Section and Special Investigation Section.
General Investigations Section
The Criminal Investigation Division consists of full-time plainclothes detectives, including a lieutenant and sergeant. The Criminal Investigation Division detectives (police officer rank) report directly to the General Investigation Section Sergeant, who also function(s) as working investigators/supervisors. The primary function of the General Investigative Division is the follow-up investigation of criminal offenses that occur within the jurisdiction of the Huntersville Police Department and the eventual identification, apprehension, and successful prosecution of criminal offenders.
Special Investigations Section
The Special Investigations Section has primary responsibility for the investigation of vice and other narcotics complaints as well as investigations involving task force officers. The Special Investigations Section is commanded by the Criminal Investigations Division Lieutenant, who reports to the Support Services Bureau Commander. The Division Lieutenant exercises direct supervision over the Special Investigations Section Sergeant. The Special Investigations Section consists of full-time plainclothes detectives who report directly to the Special Investigations Section Sergeant.
