Special Use Permit

Special use permits are permits issued to authorize development or land uses in a particular zoning district upon presentation of competent, material, and substantial evidence establishing compliance with one or more general standards requiring that judgment and discretion be exercised as well as compliance with specific standards. (NCGS 160D-102) Special Use Permits are issued in accordance with Zoning Ordinance Article 11.4.10 and are subject to the quasi-judicial process. As a quasi-judicial process, contact with the Town Board of Commissioners shall only take place under sworn testimony. Special Use Permits are heard by the Planning Board and with a final decision by the Town Board.
