William James Colson Sr. owned and operated Colson's Barber Shop, a two-chair, 900-square-foot shop on Gilead Road, for 42 years. When he opened his shop in 1966, haircuts were only 75 cents. Colson became a barber after losing his left leg in a hunting accident. Even in retirement, Colson continued to support his community by cutting elderly persons' hair in their homes.
