Albert McCoy was the great-grandson of John McKnitt Alexander, who signed the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence, and great-nephew of Major John Davidson, namesake of Davidson College. In 1886, he built his home on McCoy Road and was instrumental in the establishment of St. Mark's Episcopal Church on Mt. Holly-Huntersville Road. His home, located at 10401 McCoy Road, has been restored and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
