Latta Place is a historic house located in Latta Nature Preserve, which is the largest nature preserve in Mecklenburg County at over 1,460 acres. The house, built around 1800 was once part of a James Latta’s cotton plantation. Sample Road was named after William Sample who purchased the plantation in 1853. In 1974, Mecklenburg County purchased the house and land and turned it into a nature preserve.
